Well, the DJI Neo is small. Really small. When we first unboxed it, we were shocked at just how tiny the aircraft and its packaging actually were—pictures just don’t do it justice.
DJI pre-installs the propeller guards and propellers, which means no assembly is required. Setup was quick and easy through the DJI Fly app, and we were ready to fly in minutes.
First Flight Impressions
During our first indoor test, the Neo impressed us with how precisely it could hover in one place. Position-holding is rock solid, making it very forgiving for new pilots. Maneuvering through tight indoor spaces was surprisingly smooth.
-
In bright rooms, ActiveTrack locked onto subjects well, as long as they didn’t move too quickly.
-
In dim lighting, the drone sometimes lost track and struggled to refocus.
The mode button for palm control and quick flight took us a few tries to get used to, but once we revisited the tutorial, it made a lot more sense.
Outdoors, the Neo handled like other DJI drones with the RC-N3 controller, though its ultra-light weight meant it worked harder in windy conditions. In calm weather, however, ActiveTrack and QuickShots performed flawlessly.
Camera & Stabilization
We expected compromises at this size, but the single-axis gimbal and RockSteady stabilization blew us away. Video came out incredibly stable, with vibrations smoothed out for a professional look.
The Neo records:
-
4K video at 30fps
-
12MP still photos
For a 135g drone, that’s a lot of power packed into your pocket.
Advanced Features in a Tiny Package
The DJI Neo isn’t just about size—it comes loaded with features:
-
QuickShots: Includes Dronie, Circle, Rocket, Boomerang, Helix, and Spotlight. Perfect for quick, cinematic social media clips.
-
FPV Options: Pair with DJI Goggles 3 and FPV Remote 3 for head tracking, manual mode, and one-touch aerobatics.
-
Multiple Controls: Fly via the DJI Fly app (voice commands or joysticks), the RC-N3 controller (extended range), or immersive motion controllers.
-
Palm Take-Off & Landing: Launch from your palm, record, and safely return.

Who Is the DJI Neo For?
The Neo is built for:
-
Beginners who want their first drone to be fun and easy to fly.
-
Vloggers & content creators who need a lightweight, affordable 4K camera drone.
-
Travelers who want an ultra-portable option that can launch from the palm of their hand.
It may not compete with the Mavic 3 Pro or Air 3 in terms of raw power, but for its size and price, the Neo is unbeatable.
Final Thoughts
With the DJI Neo, DJI has lowered the barrier to drone flying like never before. At half the size of a Mini 4 Pro and at a fraction of the cost, it’s the most accessible DJI drone ever made. Whether you’re a beginner curious about drones or a vlogger looking for a portable camera companion, the Neo is an excellent entry point into the world of aerial content creation.
